The practice of LYCS Architecture designed the Primary School No. 2 in TianTai, Taizhou, Zhejiand, China with an aesthetic that wanted to serve as a model school for the region with its contemporary style and focus on the efficient education of elementary school children.
The project was designed in a way which solves the land shortage problems of the city since the 200m running track was projected on the roof level so that additional 3000 square meters were gained. The oval shape of the school also creates and added level of security for the students and there is a large yard where they can perform outdoor activities or socialize.
The raised running track led to a need for only four floors instead of five so the school fits better into the urban landscape and the structure was twisted at around 15 degrees to create smaller pockets between the site wall and the façade.
