The City of Rotterdam began a competition for the design of the new public art depot in the city’s Museumpark and the contest was won by the MVRDV architectural practice with a project clad in reflective glass with a cylindrical geometry to host the art collection of the city along with a commercial interior storage area for private collectors.

The interior has a public route leading the visitors through the storage rooms and restoration workshops up to a rooftop exhibition space, sculpture garden and restaurant. Each space was designed with flexibility in mind and the exhibition can be changed easily through the movement of the storage racks.

There are three floors and the logistics, quarantine and private art collections won’t be available for visits since their services are reserved for the owners. Aside from these programs, the structure will also host depots and an office of the De Verre Bergen philanthropic foundation.
