The Gran Cruz Winery as well as the Logistics Storage Center located in the Douro wine region in Alijo, Portugal was designed by the practice of A. Burmester Arquitectos Associados by recovering a degraded garden area.

The region was declared a World Heritage area and the industrial purpose of the unit dictated the aesthetic approach, so that each area would be as functional as possible with the wine storage spaces separated for Douro and Porto.

The project works with grapes brought from over a thousand winemakers in the region, so it needed a lot of space. The terrain permitted a layout spread over several levels without bringing a disproportionate increase in the volumes.

There are two wineries, the first taking care of around 6000 tons of grapes from the nearby regions while the other one is dedicated to smaller amounts of Oporto and Douro wine which have a higher quality. The storage area can preserve up to 22 million liters of wine and brandy.
