This residential project in West Hollywood, California was designed by the (fer) studio to remodel a home built in the 1980s while also adding an extension with a surface of 1800 square feet which would host two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The house is in the Sunset Boulevard hills so it offers an overview of Hollywood, Beverly Hills and Brentwood, views which the owners wanted to take advantage of, so the home was reoriented to the West with the bedroom toward the South to provide access to the backyard.
The owner travels often to Thailand and Cambodia so he wanted a blend of South East Asian design elements into the contemporary aesthetic. The façade is covered in red mangaris wood cladding and connection between the interior and the outdoors is ensured through full height glass walls and retractable doors.
The entrance leads to the main living area which features a Venetian plaster fireplace with granite mantle and a double height ceiling to connect it to the kitchen which has a stainless steel countertop custom made for this project. The ground floor also contains a powder room and a home office while the upper floor contains the bedrooms.
