Top ten tallest skyscrapers completing in 2013

The contest for the tallest building is always on and this year it wasn’t any different. Reaching for the stars, here are the ten tallest skyscrapers completed or set to complete this year from all around the world.

9 & 10. The Landmark and Deji Plaza phase two – 324 meters

 

The position is shared by two buildings since they both have the same height. One of them is the Landmark (picture above) mix-use tower in Abu Dhabi which was designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects and the other is the Deji Plaza shopping center (picture below) in Nanjing, China.

8. Al Yaqoub Tower – 328 meters

This apartment and hotel building in Dubai was designed by UAE firm Eng. Adnan Saffarini and it will become the second-tallest clock tower in the world.

7. Ryugyong Hotel – 330 meters

The notorious hotel in Pyongyang, North Korea was nicknamed the “Hotel of Doom” with a design that began in 1987 and it stopped in 1992 after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Constructions were resumed in 2008 and the hotel is now complete with a pyramidal shape.

6. Modern Media Centre – 332 meters

This project is located in Changzhou, China and it has 57 floors that will host production facilities for television, film, animation and radio.

5. Mercury City Tower – 339 meters

The Mercury City Tower in Moscow overtook The Shard for the tallest skyscraper in Europe with its golden glass façade designed by the Russian architect Mikhail Posokhin in collaboration with the American architect Frank Williams.

4. Chongqing World Financial Centre – 339 meters

This office tower has 73 floors and is located in the third-largest city in China. The project is also known as the Global Financial Building and it was designed by the architect C. Y. Lee.

3. JW Marriott Marquis Hotel tower two – 355 meters

Designed by Archgroup Consultants, this is the second of the hotel’s two skyscrapers located in Dubai. The first one was completed in 2012 and with a height of 355 meters it is the tallest hotel in the world.

2. The Domain – 381 meters

The Domain is an apartment block designed by Foster + Partners as the largest of the three towers in the old Central Market in Abu Dhabi forming a part of the masterplan for the Aldar Central Market.

1. Eton Place Dalian Tower 1 – 383 meters

This is a mixed-use complex in north-east China and it was designed by the NBBJ architectural practice with a glazed exterior and once it will be complete it will be in the top twenty tallest buildings in the world.
