One of the most interesting buildings in Gold Coast, Australia, although it is often thought of as unusual, is The Wave, a residential skyscraper designed and built by the Australian firm of DBI Design.

With 34 floors and 118 apartments, the original balconies built out of reinforced concrete create the impression of movement and waves, hence its name. Adding to their design, the irregular disposition allows for a combination of shade and sunlight that will fit every inhabitant’s desire. The view towards the ocean and Surfer’s Paradise is also a great feature of the building.

Extra features include an underground parking, a podium, a recreation level and commercial space at three levels. The apartments start from the fifth floor and vary in size from one to three bedrooms.

Costing around 150 million to build, this building managed to draw a lot of attention due to its unique aspect and it has put Gold Coast on the map for future architects and tourists.

It also won the Silver Medal in the yearly Emporis Skyscraper Awards thus gaining world recognition from the most prestigious specialists and not only, since it even appeared in the 2008 Bollywood action comedy film Singh Is King.
