Located in Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, the Iceberg Dwellings is a project for a sustainable mean of renovating the obsolete container terminal and transform it into a residential project with plenty of extra cultural and social functions.
With a budget of 32.6 million euros and a surface of 21600 square meters, this project was started in 2007 when the project received the first prize at the contest. The design is thought of as maintaining the predominant theme of the other local buildings and also offersmultiple choices for residents of different social statuses. One third of the apartments will be designed as renting houses and the entire area will become a new neighborhood.
Although there still are some problems at the moment concerning the height of the project and the desires for each of the spaces, the design tries to make the most of the working space. One of the problems is providing each apartment with a view towards the waterfront and also the illumination and the original geometry of the buildings try to solve this problem as much as possible.
