The Old Market in Helsinki, Finland reopened its doors after a year of renovations with the addition of the Story restaurant and café created through the collaboration of four of the most important restauranteurs in the country: Anders Westerholm, Matti Sarkkinen, Teemu Aura and Markus Hurskainen.
The restaurant offers home-style dishes cooked with fresh ingredients from the Market Square outside and its design was created by the studio of Joanna Laajisto to maintain some of the elements of the 1889 market building while improving its functionality to be up to contemporary standards.
The building in which the restaurant is located features high ceilings and a simple aesthetic with natural materials like ash, leather or stone combining with the color touches provided by the booths and furniture which comes from Tebian.
The large windows brighten the interior and they maintain a connection with the Helsinki harbor. The original fishing traps were preserved and they now serve as lighting installations.
