The practice of Teeple Architects was commissioned in 2011 to expand the Stephen Hawking Center of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and the needs of the clients are best explained by the director of the institute Neil Turok: “We asked them to provide the optimal environment for the human mind to conceive of the universe”.

The task was surely difficult and the designers expanded the space to double its original size while also ensuring several interconnected areas that would bring the whole project together to improve the interaction between the researchers.

The design provides areas where you can collaborate but also the research spaces where you can have a quiet setting and the ground floor hosts Interaction areas and the Black Hole Bistro. The entire project is hardwired to have the latest IT and audio-visual technology and thus the lectures or live demonstrations can be shared to the entire world in real time.
