The New York Breathing Machine is a name that will definitely put your imagination at work and this is how the firm Independent Architectural Diplomacy named their skyscraper located in uptown Manhattan.

The project was designed with sustainability in mind so that the exterior and interior are connected through a gridded armature. There are three main modules offering office spaces and a hotel and they are interwoven with spiral corridors of vertical gardens.

The ground level hosts a mall and a conference center on the corner of West 125th street and Broadway in order to expand the commercial use of the area while also maintaining the Broadway façade typology.

The Breathing Machine was named thus due to its carbon neutrality which it achieved by using solar panels and micro turbines to provide natural conduction flows. The ETFE skin implemented in the structural framework also uses the weather to the building’s advantage by allowing the air currents to modulate the temperature and the green areas will add protection from strong winds.
