The New Century Global Center opened up in Chengdu, China and it is currently the largest free standing building in the world with a height of 100 meters, a length of 500 meters and a width of 400 meters.

The floor space of the project covers 1.7 million square meters, making it big enough to host 20 Sydney Opera Houses or three Pentagon buildings.

The project is meant to be the epitome of the surrounding area and is located in the Tainfu New District in the capital of the Sichuan province in the southwest of China and the building opened recently. It will host a lot of business offices, hotels, theaters, shopping malls, a water park named Paradise Island and even a fake Mediterranean village.

To provide a link with the city, the Chengdu subway was expanded to serve the new district and there is a plan for a new airport to be built in 2020 which will transform the area into a new economic and cultural capital of the western side of China.
