The architectural practice of M Space designed the Nat Motor Head Office in 2014 which is located in Udon Thani, Thailand, a large economic hub in the Mekong River Basin.
The project is at an intersection on the Udonthani ring road and near an international airport so the region is rapidly developing since there are plenty of commercial buildings in the vicinity as well as the Provincial Sports Stadium.
The structure begins with folded planes from the driveway to give a dynamic geometry to the volume that also connects it with the transport network. The folds define the functional areas and overlap them as well as giving room for a semi-open multipurpose area that is partially covered by an extended roof that provides shading for the area below in a manner similar to the traditional Thai houses.
The central wing twists toward the intersection and points toward the Nong Prajak Park. The main materials are aluminum composite for the exterior to reflect the landscape and time of day, while the interior is made of a black flake finish with a rough texture that is reminiscent of asphalt concrete to bring a contrast to the façade.
