The Nanshan Clubhouse designed by SPARK architects is located in Chongqing, China and it is the first part of a series of leisure facilities for a villa community in the outskirts of the city.

The masterplan proposal created by SPARK includes a large hotel, an outdoor retail street and the 5500 square meter clubhouse. The steep topography of the site defined the design with beautiful greenery and the hotel, clubhouse and retail space compose a scenic route from the panoramic lookout above the community into the valley.

The central point in the leisure route is formed by the clubhouse acting as a mediating icon which brings together the residents and the visitors. The common space connects the different programs of the building which include a gym, a swimming pool, children’s playground, office spaces, classrooms for arts and crafts, meeting rooms, a café and a restaurant.

The common space can be used as a showroom and sales floor for the villas and a shallow reflective lake surrounds the clubhouse with wooden platforms outlining the edges of the building bridging across the lake to give access to the lobby and residential villas.
