The Laurelhurst Studio is an Auxiliary Dwelling Unit serving as a flexible space with an apartment above it and it can be used as a guest quarter, artists’ studio or yoga room, featuring a design created by the practice of PATH Architecture.
The project was transformed from a garage and it is located near Laurelhurst Park in Portland, Oregon, being equipped with multi functional furniture custom made by the Phloem Studio in collaboration with Earthbound Industries so that it can fit into the pitched roof.
The interior is completely covered in wood to ensure a cozy and warm ambiance and it can be accessed through a deck or through an outdoor staircase. There are large windows providing natural light to the south and west and a roof overhang ensures the shading.
The project conforms to the city’s ADU design standards and brings extra flavor to the backyard where the courtyard, hot tub and outdoor kitchen are located.
