The IXSIR Winery project was completed in 2012 and is located in Basbina, Jbeil, Lebanon on a site which overlooks the coastal lines to the north and the cedar lines to the south.
Designed by the architectural practice of Raed Abillama Architects, the project is a combination of the old feudal house style and the modern factory structure, trying to create a symbiosis between the built and the natural.
The entire building with the cellar, the vats, storage stacks, operation and management spacer are placed in the underground of the house being reached through a spiral staircase and the space can adapt itself to various programs of vineyard culture and education.
The cellar spaces are buried completely in the ground and this acts as a thermal sponge which offers the right amount of humidity and the appropriate temperature. The Vat spaces open toward the north-west to provide natural ventilation which is very important to the verification process.
