The Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs of the American University of Beirut in Lebanon was designed by the architectural practice of Zaha Hadid cantilevering above a public courtyard with a series of elevated pathways and it will offer a forum for debating public policies in the Arab World such as the refugee crisis or the climate changes.

The project spreads over a surface of 3000 square meters and it is to the north side of the campus with a masterplan designed by the Sasaki Associates firm. The architects from the Zaha Hadid practice had to lift half of the building off the ground to maintain the pathways and landscaping of the masterplan and this created a public plaza with ficus and cypress trees surrounding it to give shape to a natural meeting space.

The main material is concrete to integrate the structure with the other campus buildings and each wall is indented with four-sided shapes that also act as windows.
