The Goettsch Partners architectural practice designed the Hotel Kapok which is adjacent to the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center athletic complex and it offers 242 rooms spread over 19 floors with a design that tries to provide the guests with a unique spatial quality through the elimination of the typical hotel corridors.

Instead of corridors, the designers created a pinwheel plan which permits a glass encasing around the core of the hotel so that the light passed deeper into the floor plans maintaining a visual connection with the surroundings and between the sections of the interior.

There are four atriums, each of them three floors in height and they organize the amenity areas vertically while also offering the best views to the pedestrian plaza, the Hong Kong Bay and the athletic venues nearby.

The façade was clad with high-performance glazing overlaid with perforated metal scrim to ensure shading and to reference the pattern of a diamond on the enclosure of the sports center.
