Green rural home in Spain: Casa Leon

Alberto Alarcón + Asociados designed this beautiful, rural house in Spain that is covered by a green roof. The designers found inspiration in the surroundings-this is the typical, rural Spanish house. The house is oriented towards the south to better bear the harsh summers and the 985 square foot house had a tight budget to consider.

The design is sustainable and the three rooms are joined by a single vertex, making the entire space seem airy and private in the same time. The natural light and ventilation make the environment seem comfortable. The building is insulated with the help of a sort of membrane that is waterproof and it can be found under the green roof and it is also covered in an expanded polystyrene layer.

The expanded layer helps with the heating and cooling during winter and summer, not to mention the fact that it is energy sufficient. The price of the house fits all budgets and its walls are a combination of different materials like plasterboard, galvanized steel and expanded polystyrene.
