The Godfrey Hotel located at the corner of Lasalle and Huron Streets of Chicago was designed by the architectural practice of Valerio Dewalt Train Associates in 2014, making significant modifications to a former project began in 2004 by then which was left unfinished due to economic problems.

The Oxford Capital Group took the project in 2011 to develop a new “boutique-lifestyle” hotel that would maintain the steel truss frame and the building’s shifted mass. The official opening was in February 2014 with 221 guest rooms, spa and fitness facilities, as well as service areas.

Spreading over 16 floors, the project extends the fourth floor out to the rooftop above the parking podium to create an urban roof terrace that adds an outdoor section to the hotel with a surface of 15000 square feet.

The design of the structure explores the modernist shapes with a juxtaposition of large but delicate masses that are supported by a structural skeleton which evokes the ambiguity of modern times in an original and daring way.
