The Exchange is a skyscraper in Vancouver, Canada and it was designed by the Harry Gugger Studio with constructions beginning last month.
The project will host a 31 floor office building that will resolve the regulations imposed on the high-rise construction while also addressing the historical context through the preservation of the façade so that it is integrated into the Stock Exchange building.
The heritage conversion is the first LEED Platinum one and the structure fills the allowed volume with several successive projections. The historical brick and concrete of the original stock exchange building contrasts the steel and glass tower but the designers found a way of harmoniously integrating the two together, since the Exchange “does not attempt to dominate or compete with this proeminent original building but rather to successfully work together with it in order to create an overall composition that looks at once to Vancouver’s future without obscuring its past.” As the designer Harry Gugger stated.
The Exchange will be an iconic tower on the city’s skyline and the completion date slated is August 2016.
