The Daian International Conference Center located in Dalian, China was designed by the Coop Himmelb(l)au architectural practice in 2012 as a structure that binds together the trade industry and trade that are important to the city as well as its future development.

The city of Dalian is an important seaport as well as an industrial, trade and tourism center and it is going through a wave of transformation to change its aspect.

Some of the main developments include the dislocation of the container port from the city area, the establishment of an international port for cruise ships, a bridge over the sea linking the economic zone with the rest and the development of a new Central Business District.

The Conference Center is planned to become a new landmark in the region and a focal point for the future development of the city so that it is oriented in accordance with the two major urban axes that connect in front of the building.

The conference spaces are cantilevered to create a large space and differentiate the surroundings. There will be several theaters and conference spaces covered by a roof screen with the shape of a cone. The project is thus more of a hybrid building that brings together a conference center, theater, opera house and exhibition center into a single synergistic project.
