The practice of Syte Architects designed the Chiswick Green Studio, refurbishing an existing studio apartment which was converted from a factory building that still remains visible through the interior.
The project is located in Chiswick, West London, England and the designers wanted to take advantage of the double height space to maximize the functionality of the home for a young family. The original beams support a new mezzanine level which contains the three bedrooms. To ensure the privacy of the sleeping areas the designers implemented sliding screens that can either connect with the living areas or close off.
The industrial aesthetic of the original factory is still visible through the rough tones of metal and concrete and a contemporary touch is brought into the mix through the addition of a wave pattern on the sliding panels and a glass staircase with solid oak treads to connect the two floors.
