The Academy of Art Crafts (ESMA) located in Auzeville-Tolosane, France is a project designed by the LCR Architects practice in 2013 to include the main building, the Technical Academy of Photography and Game Design as well as the student housing units in the same campus at a distance of 15 minutes from the center of Toulouse.
The project has two levels of parking spaces where there are 55 reserved spots for the school and 60 for the residents. The entire housing program contains 182 units and the main project features a façade that incorporates a pattern of random vertical rhythms that bring a depth to the whole structure.
The graphic effect created by the façade ensures sufficient protection from the sun and adds an extra degree of complexity to the structure with the aid of projected shadows and colored illumination spots. The Academy has a surface of 25000 square feet and the budget for the campus was up to 50 million dollars.
